Site optimization tips and promotional ideas
- Edit your page title on all pages to reflect the topic of that page. Include the key words or phrases for that page. Do not stuff the title. Make sure it reads for humans, not search engines. Some search engines give great weight to your title.
- Do the same thing for your page description meta tag as you did for your page title. Keep it relevant to each page. You can use more text in the description but keep in mind many search engines use the description in your search results. Make it good.
- If you find the titles and descriptions are identical on each page then you may need to consider re-wording the pages so they are not too similar. Content is king but you should avoid duplicate content.
- The keywords meta tag is not as relevant to search results as it used to be due to spamming techniques. Don't waste too much time on keywords. Only include keywords that appear on that page.
- Edit your page content to include keywords and phrases that you want, and deserve, search results for. Don't waste your time writing for robots, write for humans or they won't stay. Do you just want position or do you want visitors to purchase your product or services? Don't make the mistake of writing your page for a computer robot.
- DO a spell check on your entire web site. Check for proper grammar and then have someone else read it for grammatical errors.
- Link exchange with partners or similar web sites. Do not use link farms in either direction. Free listings in directories can help but usually have a very low weight applied to them in your search results.
- Be sure to include your website URL in all marketing materials, business cards, print ads, brochures etc.
- Determine if you could benefit from a blog or "how-to" section on your website. This type of "fresh" content can improve your rank and visits.
